Resilience Under Pressure. That's how we could describe the nature of our small business community at this time. While there are positive signs and businesses continue to adapt, collaborate, and attract customers, there are still concerns pertaining to our long-term stability. As small businesses remain essential to our neighborhood's economic vitality, cultural identity, and quality of life, our future will require meaningful support from policymakers, landlords, residents, and community organizations such as ourselves. That's why we continue to feel strongly about our Love Local initiative. Continuing to direct local spending toward neighborhood establishments is essential, however those local businesses must remain in a position to be able to serve the public. That's where we come in. We continue to be here for you and we look forward to working with you to see what we can accomplish together.

To unite, support, promote, and advocate for Bushwick, Greenpoint, and Williamsburg businesses. Our goal is to positively affect the community’s commercial landscape and help stimulate the local economy.

Love Local

The Love Local initiative was launched at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to support North Brooklyn’s small businesses as shutdowns threatened their survival. While we knew we couldn’t stop people from shopping online, our hope was to remind the community to check with neighborhood shops first. Sometimes, what you need is just around the corner.

Love Local has evolved into a post-pandemic program that supports small businesses not just through promotion, but also by helping them navigate challenges, improve operations, and grow. It connects business owners with practical tools, guidance, and peers who can share valuable insight from their own experiences.

The Love Local program is constant. Yes, we do frequently produce events under the Love Local umbrella, but working with our local small businesses to help them raise their probability of success is an ongoing part of what it does and what we offer.

Paul’s career has included many overlapping projects. As VP Creative/Marketing for the East River Ferry, he managed the team that launched and operated the successful transportation service which eventually became NYC Ferry. He was the US Project Manager for Karsan, the Turkish auto manufacturer whose submission was “the people’s choice” in Mayor Bloomberg’s NYC Taxi of Tomorrow competition and was also the Creative Director of Uberangst, a Brooklyn-based innovation & technology company. Paul also spent time as Creative Director/Interactive at Mirrorball, an NYC advertising/promotions agency and as Senior Producer with Action Sports Adventure Productions, a sports film & video company that represented both the men’s and women’s World Cup soccer teams, the Women’s Sports Foundation, the US Volleyball Association and the ABL (which later became the WNBA.) While at ASAP he produced and directed commercials for such clients as Nike, Reebok, UPS, Budweiser, Noxzema and Time Warner. Paul also spent over 20 years in the video game industry as a CCO/CTO, working with such companies as Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, SEGA, and Acclaim Entertainment. He was EVP of Product Development, R&D/Licensing for Acclaim and managed relationships with MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, and also MCA/Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Lightstorm Entertainment.

He managed the development of such video games as the Mortal Kombat series, the NBA Jam series, the World Wrestling Federation series, and the Simpsons games. He was integral in the development and operation of the first ever “brick & mortar” motion capture studio, where, in addition to creating content for video games, they also provided special effects for the first two Batman movies. Prior to video games, Paul spent many years in the toy industry working for Matchbox and later LJN Toys. As EVP of Product Development at LJN, he was part of the team behind the creation of the popular Thundercats animated TV series and subsequent toy line. During his time at both LJN and Matchbox, he also directed and produced a large catalog of commercials. Earlier in life he had the pleasure of participating in the often misunderstood world of rock n’ roll, but that’s for another time. He was born in Buffalo (Go Bills!), and now works as a Creative/Marketing Consultant and in addition to the NB Chamber, sits on the boards of various nonprofits including the North Brooklyn Angels and Photoville. He lives with his wife Debbie and they are happy grandparents.

Paul also owns a collegiate, summer baseball team located in Albany, New York, The Albany Dutchmen. They’ve had over 40 of their players sign Major League Baseball contracts during the franchise’s fourteen seasons.

TRISK

A DANCE-FOCUSED PERFORMANCE VENUE & REHEARSAL SPACE IN NYC

TRISK is an integral part of Brooklyn’s cultural landscape, presenting dance and movement artists in its theater while nurturing their creative processes through its rehearsal studios. Through dance and movement, the organization not only entertains but also educates, provokes thought, and sparks conversations that lead to positive change.

More than a performance venue, TRISK serves as a platform for voices that need to be heard, a canvas for stories that need to be told, and a sanctuary for dreams rooted in unity, diversity, and empathy. To date, more than 800 original productions have graced its stages.

Each year, TRISK supports the work of more than 300 artists, attracting thousands of audience members and consistently drawing sold-out crowds. Its programming includes guest-curated productions, split-bill performances, evening-length premieres, artist-in-residence programs, classes, and community events, creating opportunities for artists and audiences to connect through the transformative power of movement.
